Choosing the Perfect Location for Your Lap Pool

by Cassandra Caldwell

If you like exercising in water, a lap pool may be the best choice for you. A lap pool is also a good choice if you have limited space on your property because, unlike other types of pools, a lap pool is designed to be narrow and long. The location of the pool is one of the major considerations you will have when thinking about installing a lap pool. To make sure you choose the most suitable site, here are some tips you should consider.

Consider the Sun and Shade

The orientation of the sun and shade on your property can give you a clue on the ideal site for your lap pool. Choose a north-south orientation for your lap pool. This will minimise the strain on your eyes while you exercise. Eye strain is usually caused by direct sunlight.

Consider the Weather and Climate of Your Region

It is important to study the microclimate of your region. The knowledge will come in handy when choosing a site for your lap pool. For instance, choosing an outdoor location for your lap pool would be better if you live in warmer climates. However, if you live in a region that experiences seasonal changes in temperatures, consider an indoor location. This will enhance the flexibility of your lap pool across all seasons.

Consider the Wind

Wind spots and the direction of the prevailing wind will also help you find the perfect location to install your lap pool. As a rule of the thumb, you want to avoid a location that experiences strong winds. Exercising when there's too much wind blowing can be unpleasant. Strong winds can lead to formation of waves in your lap pool water, which will definitely affect your exercising. While installing windbreakers such as pool fences may help with the wind issue, you will have to pay more, which can be a challenge if you are on a budget.

Consider the Council Regulations

Council regulations may also play a key role in affecting your choice of lap pool location. In most cases, this will depend on your landscape or the condition of the soil around your home. For instance, certain requirements may be in place in a location that has expansive soils, which are usually among the major causes of foundation damages. Therefore, find out from your local council any building and construction regulations before you choose the location for your lap pool.

About Me

How to Keep Your Pool Water Clean and Clear

I love my swimming pool. There is nothing better than spending a long summer's day by the side of the pool, taking the occasional dip to cool off. I also like to exercise in my pool before I start work. It really wakes me up and gets me going for the day. However, I had a bit of a shock when I uncovered my pool after a long winter. The water had turned a funny green colour. I called in a pool contractor and they explained that the water was out of balance and needed to be shocked and cleaned. Since then, I have learnt all about how best to care for my pool water. I have started this blog to let others know how they can look after their swimming pool.
